Help reclaim Australia’s secular freedom!
Make a stand — support our drive to reclaim a secular Australia!
NSL Launch Fundraiser
We have decided to extend the fundraiser beyond the original closing date as these funds are required to ensure our ongoing ability to promote secularism.
We are not a ‘secular’ nation, with full separation of Church and State. Everyone has the right to believe what they wish, but no religion has the right to dominate civil laws or the social agenda.
The National Secular Lobby (NSL) is your secular voice.
Australia is entering a progressive era — we’ve finally made same-sex marriage legal and Victoria is the first state to legalise Voluntary Assisted Dying. These are just two key issues on our secular agenda. But there’s so much to achieve to separate undue religious influence from social policies.
NSL is not anti-religious but international conventions state that “Freedom of Religion” includes the freedom to be secular, and also non-religious. Indeed, many Christians support a secular Australia — an IPSOS poll shows 78% of people want the full separation of religion from government business.
We are supported by high-profile ambassadors, and more will join us. We have a great team that drives NSL — committed people with wide experience and expertise in secular politics. They are backed by a large group of Secular Consultants who specialise in specific areas of secular policy.
Why does NSL need this funding?
The NSL team and our secular consultants want to take a more pro-active approach to promoting secular policy. Apart from activity on Twitter and other social media we need to reach a far broader market through mainstream media. 60% of people still get more of their news and information via print, radio, and TV — particularly the high-profile programs with mass audiences.
But there’s a snag. Due to the time and expertise required to co-ordinate and progress our initial media program, our in-house team will need additional backup from various media specialists. We want to make sure we have the best talent available at all times to maximise our reach and impact. If you feel strongly about secular representation in the media, you can help us achieve this goal.
Who supports the NSL?
Apart from our Ambassadors, core team, and secular consultants, NSL has direct links with a wide variety of pro-secular organisations. NSL does not have regular membership — and there are good reasons for that. Support from groups in each state is vital to show the media that NSL is a genuine national identity, able to inspire community action and to lobby governments on the secular agenda.
But we can’t do this without your help. Hopefully you’ll see the humour in the rewards for your donations. We don’t produce anything material — we offer only our commitment to strive for secular equality — and if you look again at our agenda, that task is a massive one! Your support in this task is greatly appreciated.
NO COFFEE MUG FEATURING THE LOGO OF THE ACL
No, you won't receive an ornate mug embossed with the Australian Christian Lobby logo. We felt you'd rather see your most welcome donation used to help us reach more people through social and mainstream media.
NO T-SHIRT FEATURING MOSES PARTING THE RED SEA
We could print and post you a T-Shirt featuring Moses parting the Red Sea but we're not sure where you'd wear such a thing, and besides, such a generous donation would be much better spent spreading awareness of secularism among the public, so that's what we'll do with it.
NO PERSONAL PHONE CALL FROM MALCOLM ROBERTS
We were going to offer a personal phone call from former One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts, so that you could discuss such topics as Climate Change and Immigration with him directly, but it occurred to us that that wouldn't be a very nice thing to do to someone who's just given us money. So instead of paying for his long distance call we'll just use your contribution to further the cause of secularism.
NO SWIMMING LESSONS WITH TONY ABBOTT
Although ex-PM Tony Abbott initially offered to show some of our valued contributors around his favourite breakers at Bondi (and present them with a signed pair of his custom Budgie Smugglers), we erred on the side of good taste and will instead use your valued contribution to help get the secular message to more people of influence.
NO PRIVATE DINNER WITH CORY BERNADI
We’ve had no takers for a private dinner for two with Cory Bernadi, so your spirited support will instead have to sponsor another release to the national media on a vital secular topic (plus a trip to Macca's for Cory -- he's still got to eat). We'll also, if you're happy for us to do so, list you as a supporter on the NSL website under whatever personal or business name you prefer.
SORRY, NO CHARTERED HELICOPTER FLIGHT WITH BRONWYN BISHOP
It would have been a bargain but it’s probably better if we don't risk sending you on a helicopter flight with Bronwyn Bishop. Instead, we'll use your overwhelmingly generous contribution to hire some additional freelance media expertise -- and you'll be recognised as a "Foundation Donor" on the NSL website under whatever personal or business name you prefer.
Make a contribution now and help reclaim Australia's secular freedom.
From all of us at National Secular Lobby, we thank you for your generous support.
